Major food supplier Sysco cuts off some Wichita restaurants

Daniel Mariotti of Il Primo Cafe was informed this weekend by its supplier, Sysco Foods, that they’d no longer be delivering to supplies to Mariotti’s Epic Center location and to several other restaurants in Wichita.

But that’s basically the situation that many restaurants in the Wichita area are facing after being notified that food-delivery titan Sysco Foods won’t be delivering food or taking orders from them for the foreseeable future.

‘Amazon of antibodies’ Abcam buys up US supplier in $340million deal

ambridge-based biotech Abcam is buying Californian diagnostics pioneer BioVision in a $340million cash deal to bring one of its long-term partners in-house.

Abcam was launched in 1988 by founder Jonathan Milner who cycled around local research companies with an ice-bucket containing antibodies to sell to local scientists working in nearby labs.

It now has more than 1,100 employees in 11 countries, with a market cap of around $3billion, and is known as the “Amazon of antibodies” supplying proteins, assay kits and reagents to two thirds of the world’s scientific researchers.

Fruit supplier Bardsley England acquired by Camellia

Under the terms of the deal, Camellia has bought an 80% stake in Bardsley England for £15.7m and will also loan £9.3m to Bardsley, largely to cover existing debts. 

Bardsley’s farming operation covers 850 hectares (ha) in Kent and includes 27 orchards growing apples, pears, cherries, plums and grapes as well as a large grading, packing and storage facility. The business grows nearly 18,000 tonnes (t) of fruit a year, supplying 90 million apples a year, including Royal Gala, Braeburn, Cox and Bramley varieties and at peak season it employs 550 staff.

Mail-Order Diabetic Testing Supplier and Parent Company Agree to Pay $160 Million to Resolve Alleged False Claims to Medicare | OPA

Arriva Medical LLC (Arriva), at one point the nation’s largest Medicare mail-order diabetic testing supplier, and its parent, Alere Inc. (Alere), have agreed to pay $160 million to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act.

Until it ceased business operations in December 2017, Arriva was a mail-order diabetic testing supply company based in Coral Springs, Florida. Alere is a medical device company now based in Abbott Park, Illinois. Alere acquired Arriva in November 2011. The settlement resolves allegations that Arriva and Alere made, or caused, claims to Medicare that were false because kickbacks were paid to Medicare beneficiaries,
