PS Technology (PST) announced the Belt Railway Co. of Chicago (BRC) has adopted CrewPro Short Line™ to help modernize the management of the short line’s crews. BRC’s crew scheduling and hours-of-service (HOS) requirements will now be handled by CrewPro software. The cloud-based system automates previously labor-intensive record-keeping and scheduling processes, while helping ensure regulatory compliance, according to a PST press release. The BRC is the largest intermediate switching terminal railroad in the United States, employing about 450 people. It has 28 miles of mainline route with more than 300 miles of switching tracks.
SMBC, a member of SMBC Group, announced that Michael McCarthy has been appointed president and chief executive officer of SMBC Rail Services. McCarthy, who served as a senior vice president at SMBC Rail Services for the past five years, assumes the role from Eugene Henneberry, who will retire on July 9. McCarthy joined SMBC in December 2013 as VP of portfolio management, when SMBC completed its acquisition of Flagship Rail Services. “Having led this team through the financial crisis, two company sales, the acquisition of American Railcar Leasing, and most recently the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging at times and without a doubt the most fulfilling professional time of my life,” said Henneberry in a press release. “Michael was one of the original members of my team. His experience leading the portfolio management, commercial, and customer service teams provides a unique perspective. He is best suited to lead this business through its next chapter.”
The Brilex Group of Cos. has hired former Nucor executive Doyle Hopper as chief executive officer of Brilex Industries, Inc, Brilex Technical Solutions LLC and Taylor-Winfield Technologies Inc. Hopper has nearly 30 years of steel industry and manufacturing expertise with Nucor, which he joined out of college as an entry level welder and fabricator, according to a Brilex press release. Based in Youngstown, Ohio, The Brilex Group includes BBM Railway Equipment LLC.
